Are you stressed at work? We tend to underestimate the stress level as we spent much of our time at work and are conditioned to cope with the stress. Can you tell your heart to relax and beat slower? No, our heartbeat is primarily regulated by the autonomic nervous system, which operates without conscious control. Wear a Garmin watch to collect your heart rate data for health analytics!
Garmin uses Firstbeat technology which gives valuable insights from your Heart Rate Variability. Changes in how your heart beats from one moment to the next can be used as a window through which activity occurring within your autonomic nervous system can be seen. In general, higher HRV is associated with parasympathetic dominance within your autonomic nervous system, a sign that your body is in rest-and-digest mode. On the other hand, a lower HRV is typically associated with elevated sympathetic activity within your autonomic nervous system, an indication of stress or fight-or-flight response.
Stress data is derived from your HRV. Stressful experiences influence our heart's activity. Generally speaking, lower HRV means your body is experiencing stress. Likewise, a higher HRV can indicate a reduction in stress levels, or that you have adapted to better handle stressful situations. Training, physical activity, sleep, nutritional intake and everyday pressures can all influence your stress levels.
Work in progress .... stay tuned.
